Ideal if: you’d like the opportunity to develop your basic understanding of the hair and beauty industry, and want to develop the skills needed to progress on to the Level 2 qualification.
You’ll learn: shampooing and conditioning, styling hair, an introduction to nail care and skincare, customer service and health and safety.
Expect: to develop your English and maths skills, as well as take part in work-related activities, to enable progression to Level 2.
You’ll love: practising your new skills in our college-run salons, Graduations, providing you with real salon experience.
This course will introduce you to the world of Hair and Beauty. Best suited for 16 to 18 year old students it will give you the chance to develop your basic hair and beauty skills, whilst at the same time developing your maths, English and interpersonal skills; all vital ingredients in enabling you to progress on to Level 2 in either Hair, Beauty, Barbering or Make Up Artistry.

Graduations at all of our Gloucestershire College campuses offers learners the chance to train in facilities which are industry standard and will enable you to develop your skills in client consultation, customer service and current treatment techniques. This will support your confidence to give pre and after treatment/service advice using a variety of professional ranges such as Matrix, Wella and American Crew.
Throughout your training programme you will be required to carry out treatments on your peers to develop your skills and take paying clients to gain the widest possible range of experiences and employability skills.
As in a professional salon, students will be expected to give our clients the highest possible customer care and portray a professional image; you’ll be required to wear a salon uniform whilst in the salons.
How will I be assessed?
Gloucestershire College welcome any other/combinations of relevant qualifications that are comparable and/or equivalent to the typical course entry requirements.
For 19+ applicants that do not have recognised qualifications may still meet course entry requirements through alternative methods of assessment at the College’s discretion.

As a student, you’ll have the chance to use industry-standard facilities in our on-site salons at the Cheltenham, Gloucester and Forest of Dean campuses.
