Course Overview

Full Time
Certificate

Looking to launch your career in healthcare? This course is perfect if you want to gain the skills and knowledge you’ll need to care for patients and support nursing teams. You’ll learn both the scientific concepts behind nursing and how to apply them in real-life settings.

With a blend of academic study and at least 45 days of hands-on experience in a hospital ward you’ll have the perfect balance of theory and practical learning.

What You’ll Learn

Cover key skills and theory for a successful career in nursing in its many forms. This course has been developed in collaboration with partners from the NHS, so you can guarantee that you’re learning the latest practices.

You’ll explore how the human body works, understand anatomy and physiology, and learn how to carry out clinical tasks. You’ll also develop skills in patient care, learning how to support individuals with their daily activities and assist in clinical assessments.

This course also covers:

  • Core Science Concepts
  • Working within the Health and Social Care sector
  • Health, Safety, and Environmental regulations
  • Managing Information and Data in Healthcare
  • Good Scientific and Clinical Practice

Alongside classroom learning, you’ll gain practical experience in our mock hospital ward, and complete at least 315 hours of work placement in a hospital where you’ll work closely with professional nursing teams.

You’ll get real insight into what it’s like to work on a hospital ward and how to apply the nursing skills you've learned within a professional organisation.

Highlights

You can look forward to:

  • Specialised work placements that bring your knowledge to life in a hospital environment.
  • Learning up-to-date skills in a real healthcare setting
  • Insightful guest talks from healthcare professionals
  • Training in mock ward facilities for practical, real-world experience
  • Learning from expert lecturers who’ve worked in healthcare

Assessment

You’ll be assessed through a combination of examinations, an employer set project and practical assignments. This will all contribute to you being able to demonstrate knowledge and skills throughout this area of study.

Anything else?

There is an expectation to complete placement hours on this course so you will need to provide evidence for a DBS check.

You’ll be required to purchase a GC T Level student polo top for your work placement, so that you can be easily identified in your role when out on a hospital ward.

We also promote the development of additional wider skills such as communication and resilience through our Which Three Skills programme.

I preferred GC over university as it had more flexible learning around my employment, my lessons were in the evenings meaning I could work in a nursery during the day. My dream career is to run my own nursery, and this course helped me learn important management skills to get myself where I need to be.
