What you’ll learn
This course provides a foundational understanding of the IT industry, focusing on practical skills that prepare you for a future in technical computing.
You’ll explore topics like hardware components, software applications, digital devices, animation and technical computing skills, all while improving your English and maths to ensure you’re ready for the next level of education.
The course covers key areas such as starting and working in the IT industry, understanding PC systems, and developing skills in web design and animation.
With no prior experience needed, this course is ideal for beginners who are passionate about IT. You’ll learn a mix of theory and practical skills, ensuring you gain both knowledge and hands-on experience.
You’ll also benefit from our cutting-edge facilities, including iMac suites, and participate in various trips and industry-led experiences, giving you a taste of the diverse careers available in computing.

Assessment
You’ll be assessed through a combination of internal assignments. That will demonstrate knowledge, skills and understanding that go across the specification.
Anything else?
In addition to acquiring essential digital knowledge and skills, you’ll also develop transferable soft skills and critical work competencies that will prepare you for your next steps in the digital sector. You’ll take part in continual professional development (CPD) and complete the college’s Which Three Skills programme to develop skills like communication, teamwork, resilience and more.
At Gloucestershire College we want students to develop their English and Maths skills so that they achieve their learning goals and future career aims. For this reason, all full-time students (16-18) who have not achieved grade 4 or above English language or maths GCSE will study these subjects as part of their course.
Gloucestershire College welcome any other/combinations of relevant qualifications that are comparable and/or equivalent to the typical course entry requirements.
For 19+ applicants that do not have recognised qualifications may still meet course entry requirements through alternative methods of assessment at the College’s discretion.

Upon completion, you may be able to move on to the Level 2 Diploma in IT, an apprenticeship or employment.
