You'll gain hands-on experience with the latest industry-standard tools, preparing you for a successful career in video game creation or further study in higher education.
What you’ll learn
This course gives you a comprehensive knowledge of the art and science of video game creation. You’ll master key software used to design and create next-gen video games, through using Unreal Engine 4, Unity 3D, Blender 3D, and Photoshop. You’ll use them to develop skills in software programming, 3D modelling, 2D concept art, animation, story and script writing, sound design, and special effects.
Beyond technical skills, you’ll also develop essential professional skills, like effective communication, research and presentation skills, teamwork, project management, and understanding market trends in the gaming industry.
Our strong industry links mean your learning is relevant and up to date. You’ll work on real-world creative projects, often with feedback from industry experts to enhance your learning. With access to a well-equipped lab and expert staff, you’ll design and develop your own game projects from scratch, building a portfolio that will showcase your work when you apply for higher level courses or employment.

Assessment
Your knowledge and understanding will be assessed through two project assignments. The assignments will be industry-related, with the opportunity to create your own game considering the gaming industry and its audience that you will be required to evaluate through written reflection.
Anything else?
In addition to acquiring essential digital knowledge and skills, you’ll also develop transferable soft skills and critical work competencies that will prepare you for your next steps in the digital sector. You’ll take part in continual professional development (CPD) and complete the college’s Which Three Skills programme to develop skills like communication, teamwork, resilience and more.
All learners will work towards GCSE maths or maths in context (AS level Core maths) as part of their overall programme of study.
Gloucestershire College welcome any other/combinations of relevant qualifications that are comparable and/or equivalent to the typical course entry requirements.
For 19+ applicants that do not have recognised qualifications may still meet course entry requirements through alternative methods of assessment at the College’s discretion.
