With a focus on fitness, coaching, and outdoor activities, you’ll gain hands-on experience in planning and leading sports events. You can look forward to an action-packed year filled with adventurous activities and trips, and opportunities to shine in leadership roles. Afterwards you’ll be ready to take your learning further with a Level 3 qualification.
What you’ll learn
This course is designed to give you a comprehensive understanding of the sports industry, with a focus on fitness and coaching.
You’ll be expected to keep fit with a range of physical activities and take part in a 6-week module of adventurous outdoor activities. You can also test your leadership skills through organising a primary school sports event.
You’ll cover things such as:
- Planning and leading sports activities
- Working in sport
- Sports leadership
This course is physically demanding, and you'll be expected to participate fully in all activities.
Alongside practical skills, you'll also complete relevant work placements, helping you build a strong foundation for your future career in sports. With support from experienced tutors and industry connections, you’ll leave this course well-prepared for further education or a career in sports and fitness.

Assessment will be coursework based, and include a combination of assignments, presentations and practical sessions.
Anything else?
At Gloucestershire College we want students to develop their English and Maths skills so that they achieve their learning goals and future career aims. For this reason, all full-time students (16-18) who have not achieved grade 4 or above English language or maths GCSE will study these subjects as part of their course.
You’ll also take part in continual professional development (CPD) and complete the college’s Which Three Skills programme to develop skills like communication, teamwork, resilience and more.
