The broad purpose of the occupation is to provide a range of hairdressing services that meet client requirements, that are based on a comprehensive consultation, applicable industry tests, whilst maintaining exceptional client care skills, safe working practices, meeting legal, industry and organisation standards, procedures and protocols.
Hairdressing Professionals are creative, passionate and driven professionals who work without supervision. They provide a quality service, whilst working to the highest standards and continuously developing their personal and professional skills. They take ownership of their work and client lists, accept responsibility, are proactive, flexible and adaptable, plan their work and time, they aim for excellence by taking exceptional pride in their work and industry.

Delivery model and duration:
Workplace delivery with masterclasses available in college.
Duration: 24 months plus 3 months End Point Assessment
Qualification - City & Guilds Level 2 Diploma for Hair Professionals
Components - Functional Skills English and Mathematics at Level 1 (working towards Level 2)
The apprenticeship will cover the following core areas:
- Shampooing
- Styling and finishing
- Cutting
- Colouring
- Consultation
- Customer Service
End Point Assessment
The End Point Assessment will test the entire Standard, and be undertaken as follows:
- Multiple choice test - The test will have 40 multiple choice questions. You will have 60minutes to complete it.
- Practical assessment with questions - You will be observed by an independent assessor completing a set of tasks. It will last 5.5 hours. You will be asked at least 3 questions.
- Professional discussion underpinned by a portfolio of evidence - This will last 35minutes. You will be asked at least 6 questions. You need to compile a portfolio of evidence before the EPA gateway. This will help you to answer the questions.

Consultation |
An essential part of the hairdressing service you will need to master. You need to be a good communicator and provide clients with advice and recommendations. Be able to analyse and recognise different hair and scalp conditions, characteristics and classification. Follow salon policies and manufactures instructions. |

Shampoo, condition and treat the hair and scalp |
Be able to select the hair and scalp type correctly and practically demonstrate you know the massage techniques to use. As this is usually the first service the client experiences in the salon. |

Cutting |
Show you have an eye for design to create styles of precision, disconnected cuts for fashion and classical techniques. Once you have mastered the basics you need to show and develop your creative skills this will enhance your career as a stylist. |

Colour and lighten hair using a range of techniques |
Understand the science of colouring and lightening the hair. How to use the different tools, equipment, products and techniques used. Show innovative methods of colour placement in order to enhance the client’s style. Resolve basic colour problems. |

Styling and finishing hair Part A and dressing Part B |
These skills are important to create the overall finish the client demands. You need to show your ability to finish the hair in various ways using different techniques and equipment. This includes understanding products to use and been able to style various lengths of hair whether as a blow dry finish or a hair up. |

GCSE's in English and maths - Grade 9-1 (A-G) or Level 1 Functional Skills equivalent
