Extended Creative Writing

Level X
Cheltenham

Course Overview

Part Time
Certificate

Participation in our evening classes provides far more than the opportunity to learn new skills but also numerous benefits to our mental health and wellbeing . Evening classes are known to lower stress levels, improve confidence, increase social integration, contribute to personal growth and lifelong learning to name just a few advantages.

This course is aimed at those who have already completed the Creative Writing for Leisure course or have already started writing and may already have areas they wish to explore.

The course will be looking into more depth on how to create a three-dimensional, believable character.

You will also explore the below topics.

  • What makes characterisation in famous books work so well.
  • Scene creation and how to bring the reader into the world the writer is trying to create.
  • What mistakes stop a reader from finishing a book.
  • Is the dialogue convincing and does it sound realistic?

During each session a new copy will be produced, and homework assigned for the class to review and use as constructive feedback. As a group you will look at different plot structures and how they work well with different genres.

If you have never written before or are looking to ease into writing, we would advise to start with the Creative Writing for Leisure course as a starting point.

  • Our recreational courses are for adults aged 19 and older (as at 31st August of the academic year).

  • Your tutor will be able to advise you of further training opportunities or you may like to consider one of our other leisure courses.
