Start your journey as a professional barber. This course is ideal if you’re looking to take your first steps into the world of traditional and modern barbering. With hands-on training in our Graduations hair salons, you’ll learn essential barbering skills and techniques from industry expert lecturers. You’ll get plenty of practical experience working on real clients as your practice and perfect your skills. On completion, you’ll be set with the skills to work as a professional barber.
What you’ll learn
You’ll master the professional art of cutting, styling, and grooming men’s hair, learning the vital skills of barbering. You’ll gain a wide range of barbering skills and practice on real clients in a commercial setting at our Graduations salons. You’ll also develop a deeper understanding of the craft as you explore the theory and origins of barbering.

You’ll learn to deliver excellent customer service, honing your skills to meet commercial standards and timings.
You’ll also enjoy masterclasses from industry experts and have the chance to participate in competitions, giving you a taste of the barbering industry. By the end of the course, you’ll be ready to start your career as a barber or continue your training in hairdressing.

Assessment
You’ll take part in practical assessments which are carried out in our own commercial salons. You will be continually assessed throughout your course and complete end of unit online exams.

There is a course fee to cover essential course materials and uniform, which must be purchased at least 2 weeks before the course starts. You can contact Student Services to find out about financial assistance.
At Gloucestershire College we want students to develop their English and Maths skills so that they achieve their learning goals and future career aims. For this reason, all full-time students (16-18) who have not achieved grade 4 or above English language or maths GCSE will study these subjects as part of their course.
You’ll also develop additional employability and work-based skills through our Which Three Skills programme, and benefit from a weekly pastoral session with a student mentor for any additional support. You’ll need to be able to demonstrate good interpersonal skills, enthusiasm, commitment and an ability to communicate effectively.
Gloucestershire College welcome any other/combinations of relevant qualifications that are comparable and/or equivalent to the typical course entry requirements.
For 19+ applicants that do not have recognised qualifications may still meet course entry requirements through alternative methods of assessment at the College’s discretion.
