The First Extended Certificate is broadly equivalent to studying four GCSEs at grades A* - C. As such it is a good vocational choice for those students who have an interest in technical IT but who have not achieved suitable GCSE grades to start on our suite of National Diploma courses. The Level 2 First Extended Certificate gives a firm foundation in all IT disciplines.
Your knowledge and understanding will be tested through a mixture of vocationally relevant assignments and online tests (Units 1 the online world & 2 technology systems are tested online).
Assignments usually involve a high-degree of practical work although some will require you to complete background research before starting the task.
Most assignments will involve you doing work outside scheduled classes although your lecturers are fully committed to give you support when you need it.
Gloucestershire College welcome any other/combinations of relevant qualifications that are comparable and/or equivalent to the typical course entry requirements.
For 19+ applicants that do not have recognised qualifications may still meet course entry requirements through alternative methods of assessment at the College’s discretion.

Upon completion, you may be able to move on to a Level 3 Diploma in a computing specialism. Alternatively, you may be able to move on to an apprenticeship or employment.
