What you’ll learn
In the first year, you'll gain essential computing skills and learn about software with a foundational year in Advanced Computing. In your second year, you’ll specialise in the Forensic Computing and Cyber Security with a range of specialist topics.
You’ll learn advanced topics such as computer hardware and software programming, cryptography, cryptanalysis, IT auditing, and the legislative frameworks surrounding cyber security. You’ll explore various types of data crime, including identity theft, virus attacks, and hacking, while learning how to secure network traffic and recover lost data.
Our well-equipped labs and cutting-edge computer systems offer an environment where you can investigate and explore digital devices, networks, and software without restriction.
This course is perfect if you’re interested in the technical and investigative aspects of cyber security, as you’ll learn the skills needed for higher education or a career in forensic computing and cyber security.

Assessment
Your knowledge and understanding will be assessed through core mandatory examinations and assignments. The assignments will be industry-related, with some involving practical tasks that you will be required to evaluate through written reflection.
Anything else?
In addition to acquiring essential digital knowledge and skills, you’ll also develop transferable soft skills and critical work competencies that will prepare you for your next steps in the digital sector. You’ll take part in continual professional development (CPD) and complete the college’s Which Three Skills programme to develop skills like communication, teamwork, resilience and more.
All learners will work towards GCSE maths or maths in context (AS level Core maths) as part of their overall programme of study.
Gloucestershire College welcome any other/combinations of relevant qualifications that are comparable and/or equivalent to the typical course entry requirements.
For 19+ applicants that do not have recognised qualifications may still meet course entry requirements through alternative methods of assessment at the College’s discretion.

Upon completion, you may be able to move on to a higher education computing course. Alternatively, you may wish to seek employment as a forensic computer analyst.
