Course Overview

Part Time
Certificate

Participation in our evening classes provides far more than the opportunity to learn new skills but also numerous benefits to our mental health and wellbeing . Evening classes are known to lower stress levels, improve confidence, increase social integration, contribute to personal growth and lifelong learning to name just a few advantages.

The course is for people who have already been learning Italian for a couple of years and wish to develop their language skills further or to refresh their knowledge.  Learners will therefore already be familiar with many aspects of the language at intermediate level e.g. introductions, ordering food in a restaurant, taking public transport, shopping, describing likes and preferences, using the present and past tenses, and have some knowledge of the future and conditional tenses.

The Italian Upper Intermediate course will develop a range of topics.

The course will include:

  • Exploring a wider range of vocabulary, grammar and cultural awareness.
  • Building on the use of the present, past tense (perfect and imperfect), future, conditional and present progressive.
  • Introducing the passive voice, the imperative and the subjunctive.
  • Dealing with more complex situations, where things don’t quite go according to plan rather than dealing with the predictable.

By the end of the course you will have an excellent knowledge of how to cover all events in the past, present and future.

  • The course is aimed at adults aged 19 and over (as at 31st August of the academic year)

We recommend that students start in September and continue through to June.  It may be possible to join at the beginning of the second term but this must be with the permission of the tutor and with the reassurance that the student has sufficient prior knowledge. It is not possible to join in the third term.

What You Will Pay

Many businesses work with companies abroad, or have branches in other countries. This gives speakers of multiple languages an advantage when it comes to working with larger companies and organizations.

We have courses in French, German, Spanish, and other languages for use in business and socializing. You might end up working for a global investment firm, or as a translator for the police!

Please note, all Language courses (excluding British Sign Language) are roll on courses, which involves students enrolling from one term to the next, building on the knowledge and skills learnt in the previous term. In exceptional circumstances and at the tutor’s discretion, it may be possible to join in-year, if there is already a foundation of language learning at the relevant level.
