You’ll be put through your paces mentally and physically, gaining in-depth knowledge and practical skills across key areas. You’ll also gain practical experiences such as organising sports events for local schools, meaning you’ll be well-prepared for higher education or a career sports or coaching.
What you’ll learn
You’ll learn about the three main areas of sport - development, coaching and fitness. You’ll cover a range of topics, including talent identification and development, fitness testing, sports coaching, and sports psychology. You’ll also gain practical experience in organising sports events and analysing sports performance.

You’ll build invaluable skills to succeed as the course puts you through your paces physically and mentally. Alongside physical activities you’ll also get to try your hand at delivering a range of sports events for local schools.
Learning from expert lecturers in dedicated facilities, you’ll complete this course equipped with the knowledge and hands-on experience needed to succeed in higher education or a range of careers in sports coaching and development.

Assessment
Assessment will be coursework based, and include a combination of assignments, presentations and practical coaching sessions.
Anything else?
At Gloucestershire College we want students to develop their English and Maths skills so that they achieve their learning goals and future career aims. For this reason, all full-time students (16-18) who have not achieved grade 4 or above English language or maths GCSE will study these subjects as part of their course.
You’ll also take part in continual professional development (CPD) and complete the college’s Which Three Skills programme to develop skills like communication, teamwork, resilience and more.
