#NAW2021 Apprenticeship Case Study: Albie Miller, Digital Marketing Apprentice at Western Global

Gloucestershire College is a proud champion of apprenticeships. To celebrate National Apprenticeship Week 2021, we are showcasing success stories from our amazing apprentices and employers.

We caught up with Albie Miller, Digital Marketing Apprentice at Western Global, along with her line manager and Global Head of HR, Yasmin Boudebza, to share their experience of our Level 3 Digital Marketing Apprenticeship so far.

Why did you decide to complete an apprenticeship?

I was already working at Western Global on reception and moved across to the marketing team without any previous experience, so I’m completing the Level 3 Digital Marketing Apprenticeship to develop knowledge and the know-how.

Tell us about your day-to-day job role as an apprentice?

I produce email campaigns, work on our social media presence and postings, and carry out any presentations, sell-sheets and marketing materials. My manager allows me time out of my working week to complete my apprenticeship work, as part of the 20% off the job training required for an apprenticeship. It has allowed me to have a further understanding on SEO and email campaigns.

How have you been supported through your apprenticeship?

I have had great support from both my manager and College assessor, both being readily available to answer any questions I may have and to point me in the right direction. I have been working from home since March 2020. I have had great support from Gloucestershire College and my place of work. I have a morning meeting with the UK team at Western Global, two calls a week with the marketing team and fortnightly calls with the whole global team.

Would you recommend doing an apprenticeship?

Yes, it is a great experience being able to work and learn. I hope to be a qualified digital marketing specialist within Western Global, to assist with the website, emails, socials and more.

Yasmin Boudebza, Global Head of HR at Western Global

Yasmin has supported Albie through her Level 3 Digital Marketing Apprenticeship and had this to say.

Yasmin commented: “This is the first time we have worked with Gloucestershire College. This apprenticeship has worked hand in hand with on-the-job training. It has supported Albie’s day-to-day activities, whilst developing critical thinking and supported the expansion of her overall business understanding. We believe that this apprenticeship will give her a great starting block from which to grow her marketing career. We are a business that likes to support the continued growth and development of our internal team, so from this apprenticeship, Albie will progress to become a full marketing specialist in the team. The communication and support provided to our apprentice both before and during her apprenticeship has been excellent.”
