Congratulations to Marcus Evans, Charlie Lodge, Eleanor Brisland, Oliver Tutton and Ezra Price who were awarded the Runners Up Prize in the national Engineering For People Design Challenge 2021.

Our Product Design and Development Engineering Degree Apprentices from Renishaw, representing Gloucestershire College and UWE Bristol, made it through to the top six teams before being named Runners Up in this year’s competition.

1,339 teams participated in this competition run by Engineering Without Borders from universities across the UK and Ireland. 102 teams submitted their final designs to be judged by 234 professional reviewers from 32 countries. 35 teams were announced as finalists before pitching their projects to 22 expert judges. Our incredible team of apprentices then made it through to the Grand Finals along with five other teams before being awarded the Runners Up Prize.

We are incredibly proud of our apprentices and their fantastic achievement. Find out more about their project below:

Implementation of Biodigesters and Oxidation Ponds

The Runners Up of this year's Grand Finals consisted of a combination of biodigesters and oxidation ponds which will be used to remove and treat wastewater. The solution also provides clean drinking water, solid and liquid fertiliser, and building materials. This cost-effective and low maintenance solution seeks to improve the sanitary conditions and economic prospects of Lobitos and Piedritias. Learn more about their design here.
