We’re excited to announce a new, free course which will equip students with the right knowledge and skills to become a Class 1 HGV driver. Upon completion, students will gain either a CAT C or CAT C+E HGV licence.
HGV drivers are a vital part of the UK economy, and now is a great time to join the workforce as companies are drastically improving pay, terms and conditions to ensure that the essential work of HGV drivers is recognised.
The course is available to anyone who is aged 19+, and is currently unemployed, self-employed or seeking work. They must also be generally fit and healthy and able to commit to daily attendance for the course duration, as well as holding a full UK driving licence.
Delivered in a safe and fun learning environment, the course will introduce students to transporting and moving goods within the logistics sector, and cover topics such as route planning, vehicle security, and health and safety. Learners will also gain a Driver Certificate Professional Competence (CPC), and apply for their Digital Taco card.
The course includes ten days of full time classroom-based study, which involves self-study, hazard awareness and case study tests. This takes place over two weeks, and is followed by a minimum five day Practical Driving Training course delivered over one week. Due to DVLA examiner availability, dates for this course may not follow directly.
