How Do I Find an Apprenticeship|Becoming an Apprentice

Applying for an apprenticeship is a little different to applying for a full-time college course and not everyone is guaranteed a role, as they are becoming increasingly competitive. Here we’ve listed the best ways to find you perfect apprenticeship.

Applying for an apprenticeship is a little different to applying for a full-time college course and not everyone is guaranteed a role, as they are becoming increasingly competitive.

Ways to find you perfect apprenticeship:

1. Search apprenticeship vacancies:

We offer a range of apprenticeships from intermediate to degree level, in 17 different industries. Our website lists live vacancies and we regularly send out Top Jobs emails. Sign up for updates at: gloscol.ac.uk/apprenticeshipvacancies. When you apply, a member of our Employer Training & Apprenticeships team will contact you with next steps.

2. Training for existing staff

If you’re already in a job but would like to upskill and gain qualifications to progress within the company, ask your employer to contact the Employer Training & Apprenticeships team to discuss suitable apprenticeship programmes for that suits both of your needs.

3. You have an employer in mind

You may already have found a company you’re interested in working for but you don’t quite have the skills or qualifications to be a full-time, permanent employee. Contact them directly and, if they are willing to take you on as an apprentice, ask them to contact GC Employer Training & Apprenticeships team at employer.training@gloscol.ac.uk to find out more about the process and incentives available to them.

4. Applying for an apprenticeship programme without having an employer.

We encourage everyone who is interested in an apprenticeship to apply online for the programme of their choice. Our team will then be able to get in touch and pre-interview you. We will then be able to advise on next steps and give you top tips to find an employer. We have employers come to us all year round looking for prospective apprentices, so if we already have your application, we can help match you up with an employer. Apply for the programme of your choice today via: gloscol.ac.uk/apprenticeship

If you meet the criteria for an apprenticeship, you will be asked to attend an interview at the College. It’s important that you attend this interview to ensure you don’t get withdrawn from the rest of the process. If it’s a vacancy you’re applying for, following a successful interview with us, you will then be interviewed by your potential employer.

It can take some time to match you to your perfect apprenticeship and employer; we’d always advise to start applying for an apprenticeship as early as possible.
