“Initially, I studied Engineering at College. I then went into labouring with a gang at Mike Etheridge. I found the job interesting, and they were happy to support me onto an apprenticeship. As a Bricklayer apprentice, I work on projects with companies such as Bovis Homes and Linden Homes. I spend a lot of time onsite helping to build new homes all over Gloucestershire.
We're gearing up for the September 2022 starts of our construction and building services apprenticeship programmes at GC. This month, we're catching up with some of our construction and building services apprentices, to see what inspired them to learn a trade and what they enjoy best about being an apprentice.
Daniel Field is a second year Bricklayer apprentice at Mike Etheridge Construction.

“I have been well supported as an apprentice both at the College and at work. My employer treats apprentices well, so we get all the necessary help, guidance and support. When I am at College, I get lots of support too. Glen, my Trainer at GC, has years of experience from the industry, so I’ve been learning a lot from him that I'm able to put it into practise at my company.
“My goal is to complete my apprenticeship, to stay on at Mike Etheridge and to develop my full potential as a qualified bricklayer.
“I’d definitely recommend doing an apprenticeship in bricklaying as this profession will always be in demand. But you do have to have the right mind set to succeed - it can get very cold in the winter :)"
