Catering and Hospitality with Farncombe Estate
Latest News
We’re proud to have partnered with Farncombe Estate to offer our students a number of industry masterclasses and work experience opportunities throughout their time at college.
As our autumn term is now in full swing we’re excited to see some of our students beginning to get a flavour of what it’s like to work in industry – none more so than some of our Catering and Hospitality students who visited the luxurious Farncombe Estate yesterday.
Nestled in the Cotswolds, Farncombe Estate is home to three hotels and offers a fantastic range of dining experiences with locally sourced produce. We’re proud to have partnered with them for the fourth year running, to offer our students a number of opportunities throughout their time at college.
Starting with a tour of the estate and an introduction to some of the staff and their roles at Farncombe, we’re able to give our students a number of experiences throughout the year. This includes three masterclasses led by Farncombe Estate’s experienced chefs, who bring their skills and knowledge to the kitchens at our Forest of Dean and Cheltenham campuses. They work with small groups of students to introduce them to various techniques and create as many courses as possible, pushing their abilities and sparking a lifelong passion for creating beautiful food.
Farncombe Estate also works hard to introduce new produce and ingredients our students, using industry connections from suppliers such as Flying Fish Seafoods, who supplied us with some top quality lemon sole this year.
Martin Burge, Culinary Director at Farncombe Estate, stressed the importance of introducing new techniques and ingredients to the next generation of chefs:
“Farncombe Estate is very passionate about growth and development within the hospitality industry so supporting young people who are aspiring to be chefs is something that we’re super passionate about. We want to see the younger generation develop and moving forward, which is why we put lots of time and effort into mentoring from a young age.”
Following successful work experience placements last year, a number of our Professional Cookery students were offered roles at Farncombe Estate, and will be supported by a well-established mentoring programme so that they can continue to learn and develop new skills.
We can’t wait to see what they get up to, and what Farncombe Estate will introduce our students to this coming year!
