T Level Student Beginning Apprenticeship with Roberts Limbrick
Where can a T Level take you? We’re saying a huge congratulations to Regan who’s starting her journey towards a career in architecture after studying the Design, Surveying and Planning for Construction T Level. She’s secured an apprenticeship at architecture firm, Roberts Limbrick
During her time at college she’s learned some great things about building design and is taking her skills and knowledge to her next step. She said:
“I want to be an architect, so I thought the T Level would benefit me more than going into A levels, because the course is more targeted to that type of thing. I think architecture is really interesting, looking at how buildings impact people's lives. It's a big part of everyone’s lives really, even if they're not in the construction industry.
“We do a lot of design management. We do drawings and design buildings ourselves, as well as repurposing and redesigning buildings, so we know what it takes to design a building and how it should look and what it needs.
“We start drawing it from blank and then we can put it into 3D modelling as well, so we know what it looks like. We fully follow the process from start to finish.
“I've been applying for universities and I've got two offers from them, so it's exciting thinking about what I may be able to do in the future.”
Regan’s work placement was with Kier Construction, where students had some great feedback from the team who supported them at their latest project in Gloucester, The Forum. She was on placement with fellow student Sam Weller.
“Both Regan and Sam have been a great asset to The Forum team, always punctual and arriving with a great attitude. They’re engaging, polite and enthusiastic, always keen to get involved, asking what else they can contribute to and keen for feedback on the tasks they have completed.
“Most recently they’ve been involved heavily in our future planning. We have been looking at sequencing and logistics. They have carried out a take-off (measure and quantify) of the external works. We had to develop a detailed phasing plan, allocating resource and materials for each phase of the works. Partnering with our logistics company, they have been producing materials schedules for internal works packages to quantify the amount of materials per room, per floor, so that we can best organise deliveries to site, materials storage areas within the floor plates as well as analyse expected waste to feedback to the supply chain to allow for more efficient packing of materials to minimise our environmental impact.
I have been thoroughly impressed with Regan and Sam and would certainly welcome further T Level students in the future.”
