Your Questions Answered – What are HTQs?
We’re excited to add to our HTQ offer from September 2023. With courses now covering Computing, Technical Construction, and Healthcare, there are even more opportunities to specialise in your education and upskill for the career you want. But what is an HTQ?
Higher Technical Qualifications (HTQs) are new and existing level 4 and 5 technical qualifications approved by the Institute for Apprenticeships and Technical Education. They encompass higher national certificates (HNCs), higher national diplomas (HNDs) or foundation degrees that have been approved against occupational standards, decided by employers.
HTQ qualifications have been developed by awarding bodies in collaboration with employers and businesses so that you get the specific training, knowledge and skills required for your chosen career. After completing your HTQ in your chosen field, employers will regard you as highly employable.
There are many different types of HTQ, and that number is steadily growing! They’re a great alternative to apprenticeships or degrees, and are perfect if you’re looking for a more practical, career-led study programme.

Crucially, they allow you to specialise in your knowledge and prepare you for a specific career, meaning they’re a great stepping stone if you're looking for qualifications to start or advance your career.
See our course details for more information about the specialised routes available for each course.
