We’re delighted to have teamed up with Constructing Excellence South West (CE South West), to launch a bespoke leadership programme, created to help construction professionals understand, develop, practice and apply key behaviours that underpin effective leadership in the construction industry.

Training is underway at Llanthony Priory, based at Gloucester Campus, and across sixteen weeks participants will attend fortnightly face-to-face sessions, enabling them to balance training with work commitments.

Along with the build of our new, sustainable construction centre at Cheltenham Campus, this short course will help pave the way for the construction industry to meet local demands, and enable learners to progress in their careers, learning firsthand from industry experts Kevin Harris, CEO of CE South West, and Howard Betts, Organisational Development Consultant and Executive Coach.

When asked on the importance of this programme, Howard Betts said:

“Leadership has always been important to businesses and organisations seeking to grasp the opportunities that change creates. Our post-Covid world of work has created challenges and opportunities for those businesses and organisations who are well led and staffed with people who possess complementary skills, are committed to a common purpose and prepared to make the behavioural changes required to perform at a consistently high level.

“By working collaboratively with Gloucestershire College, it was clear both organisations shared the same goals around a common purpose. From the outset both organisations were clear on what we wanted to jointly achieve. The proof will now be in the delivery of this course, and I am extremely optimistic of its success”.

Employers including Beard Construction, Barnwood LTD, Goodhind Engineering and GSS Architecture have joined the course and appreciate the importance of up-skilling the next generation of leadership and retaining key skills in the industry. Modules such as leading teams, culture and strategy are covered to ensure staff feel empowered to lead and inspire their teams.

We are excited to see how our learners apply new skills to their roles, and the impact the course will have on the region and future developments.
