We get it. Coming to college is exciting, but it can be a big change. No matter what’s going on, there’s always someone at GC who can help you. We’ve got support in place from day one. And it’s all designed to make sure our students have the best possible start on their GC journey.

Did you know?
As well as your course, you’ll take part in our unique Student Development programme. It involves personalised study to help you work towards your goals, whether that’s a higher-level course, an apprenticeship or getting a job after college!
Student Support Teams at GC
Student Services
Your one-stop hub for general advice and answers, our Student Services team can help you make the most of your time at college. They’ll answer questions about:
- Financial advice and assistance
- Applications and courses
- Referring you to Student Mentors, Student Development or Academic teams
And if you’re not sure who can help, Student Services will always be able to help point you in the right direction!
Student Mentors
If you’re studying a full-time course, you’ll have a dedicated Student Mentor whilst you’re at college. They’re there to help you be safe, successful, and stay on-track. Their amazing support was acknowledged in our latest Ofsted report, and its key to making sure our students succeed!
Careers Advice and Guidance
Our designated Careers Advice and Guidance team are here to develop your career skills. They can cover:
- Specialist advice and guidance signposting
- UCAS support
- Progression sessions and career themed tutorials
- Work experience and employer masterclasses
- Online careers resources
Employability Team
We’ve got a dedicated Employability Team across our three campuses who are here to help you find external work experience and complete your continuous professional development (CPD) hours. All our students complete at least 100 hours of CPD during their time at college.
Enrichment (Clubs and Activities)
There are lots of opportunities to get stuck into clubs and activities at college! You can make new friends, learn and develop your skills and talents, and most importantly, have fun!
If you’d like to introduce something new, we can support you on establishing your own society too.

Learning Support and Accessibility
Our Learning Support team is here to help all our students achieve positive outcomes, whilst developing independence, resilience and employability. They assist students with various learning differences and/or difficulties across all levels at college.
We have trained and experienced staff to assist a range of additional needs, and lots of things in place to make sure our students are fully supported throughout their time at GC.
Safeguarding
Safeguarding places our students at the centre of our concerns, and builds around the student policies, practices and procedures they need to succeed.
At GC we’re committed to the welfare and safeguarding of students, and safer recruitment of staff.
Wellbeing and Mental Health
We take our students’ wellbeing seriously. Not only do we have a designated mental health lead available to our students, but there’s a huge range of tools and practices that we can share to help students feel their best.
