Gloucestershire College and Constructing Excellence South West Celebrate Construction Leadership Learners

Last night we were excited to host a celebratory event for the first graduates of our Construction Leadership course, in partnership with Constructing Excellence South West (CE South West).

Launched earlier this year, the bespoke programme was designed to help construction professionals develop and apply key behaviours that underpin effective leadership in the construction industry. Learning from industry experts Kevin Harris, CEO of CE South West, and Howard Betts, Organisational Development Consultant and Executive Coach, the short course is helping the construction industry to meet local demands, and enable people to progress in their careers.

Employers including Beard Construction, Barnwood Limited, Quattro Design Architects Ltd, Goodhind Engineering, Ridge and Partners LLP and GSS Architecture joined the course.

During the celebration, some of the first cohort shared wonderful feedback:

"I wanted to explore the skills/tools required to become a successful leader in the construction industry. I really enjoyed the guest speakers sharing their knowledge and previous experience. It has given me tools to take forward in future management roles. I plan to use the tools in any situation which require them. Just do it."

"It was offered through work and seemed a great opportunity to develop my learning. I enjoyed the guest speakers the most, specifically Conflict Resolution. The course helped me by making small changes to my current management style, when to listen/follow and when to lead and understanding people's beliefs and values. Learn it and do it!"

Speaking about the course, Programme Coordinator, Sam Flynn, said:

“Our learners have found the course to be very beneficial to their businesses and organisations. They have up skilled their leadership skills with the training, such as leading teams, culture, and strategy, empowering them to lead and inspire their teams. We are excited to see how our learners apply their new skills to their roles, and the impact the course will have in the future.”

The event was also a great chance for employers to reflect on the course and the new skills that their staff have developed.
