The Road Ahead: Computing Students Discuss AI and Cybersecurity With Top Employers
Latest News
It was an exciting day for our computing and games design students as they had the chance to meet cyber experts from across the globe and delve into topics such as emerging AI technologies and cybersecurity.
The event was held at our Cheltenham campus and live streamed across both Gloucester and Forest of Dean campuses, giving all our computing students the opportunity to discuss what the future holds for the cyber industry, alongside key employers such as ShaShank, RipJar and Betaden.
Our students were able to learn about the industry's growing need for AI roles and how machine learning practices are reshaping possibilities with rapid advancements in generative models. Students also had the opportunity to check out the cutting-edge world of zero trust Architecture in cybersecurity and see how new technologies will work together to shape the future of cyber.
When asked about the importance of engaging with the cyber workforce of the future, Daniel, Marketing and Communications Manager from BetaDen said: “Engaging with the cyber workforce of the future is essential to addressing the rapidly evolving challenges in technology and security. By inspiring and equipping students with the skills needed in AI, cybersecurity, and other high-potential digital careers, we not only prepare them to excel in high-demand roles but also empower them to drive innovation and safeguard our digital world.
The courses offered at Gloucestershire College and the support we offer at BetaDen for students bridge the gap between education and industry, ensuring a pipeline of talent ready to tackle tomorrow's complexities.”
Dan, Data Science Team Lead from Ripjar said: “Recent advances in AI, including GenAI, have unlocked many new and growing capabilities, on both the side of risk infiltration and detection.
This brings a set of opportunities for future generations to become experts in this technology, to develop novel techniques to fight crime, which is critical to combat these new forms of criminal threats.”
The event did not only bring industry experts together from Gloucestershire, but Worcestershire and even India!
Michael Okeke, Lecturer in Computing said; “Engaging with employers to discuss topical advancements like AI and cybersecurity is crucial for our students as it bridges the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical industry needs. It allows students to gain first-hand insights into how these technologies are evolving and being implemented in real-world scenarios, enhancing their understanding of current trends and challenges.
Interactions with employers are so important as they provide valuable networking opportunities, fostering relationships that may lead to internships, mentorships, or job opportunities.”
